You don't pick the Tame Beast Spirit Walker because you want to press ten buttons every pack. You pick it because the monkey does a shocking amount of work while you stay alive and keep the fight moving. In Patch 0.5, the Path of Exile 2 Currency built around Tame Beast feels less like a gimmick and more like a proper endgame setup, especially once companion damage and attack speed start stacking on gear.

What makes the monkey setup work
The build is simple on the surface, but it has a clear reason for being strong. Your companion keeps hitting while you dodge, reposition, or deal with boss mechanics. That sounds small until you're in a messy arena and can't stand still for more than a second. The monkey doesn't care. It keeps pressure on rares, bosses, and packs that would normally force a stop-start playstyle. Most players notice the build coming online once they stop scaling their own damage first and treat the beast as the main carry.

Core priorities for skills and passives
Tame Beast is the skill you build around, so every support choice should make the companion hit harder, faster, or more reliably. You'll still want mobility and defence, because POE 2 punishes lazy positioning, but the damage plan stays focused. A clean priority list usually looks like this.
  • Scale companion damage before personal damage.
  • Take beast or companion attack speed whenever it's efficient.
  • Keep one reliable movement skill active at all times.
  • Add defensive Spirit tools for dangerous rares and boss phases.
  • Invest in life, resistances, and mitigation before pushing harder maps.

Gear stats that actually matter
It's easy to get baited by flashy offensive stats, but this build rewards practical gearing. If an item makes the monkey stronger and doesn't wreck your defences, it's probably worth testing. Cooldown reduction also feels better than it looks on paper, since smoother skill cycling means fewer awkward gaps in tough fights.
PriorityStat to look forWhy it helps
Very HighCompanion DamageDirectly boosts the main source of DPS
Very HighCompanion Attack SpeedImproves clear and boss uptime
HighSpirit PowerStrengthens support and utility scaling
HighMaximum LifeKeeps you alive while the beast works
MediumMovement SpeedMakes mapping and dodging feel cleaner

Mapping and boss fights
In maps, the build has that nice "keep walking" rhythm. The monkey jumps into packs, you guide the route, and most trash disappears without much drama. It's not completely hands-off, and you'll still need to respect nasty modifiers, but it's comfortable farming. Bossing is where the setup earns its reputation. Because your damage keeps running while you handle mechanics, long fights feel less tiring. You're not losing half your damage every time the boss drops ground effects or forces you across the room.

Who should play it
If you like companion builds, this one's an easy recommendation. It suits players who want strong endgame progress without turning every fight into a piano routine. It also has a nice upgrade path, since better companion gear gives obvious results. Players planning to tune the build further or buy Path of Exile 2 Currency for faster gearing should focus on beast scaling first, then patch up defences, because a dead Spirit Walker still does no damage, no matter how angry the monkey is.
